School Basketball Proposal

Sydney Schools Shootout and Sydney Supersonics for Junior High School

Basketballers 3 x 3 for Year 7/8 student athletes

Rationale:

A 3 x 3 Gala Day can be organised for your school. Our premier 3 x 3 team- the Sydney Supersonics, are offering schools the opportunity to enter this exciting new concept whereby a professional men’s 3 x 3 team play an 8 minute exhibition game, then stays for the duration of the day to mentor, coach and referee your students in a round robin Gala Day. This is a first time opportunity and we are open to modifications to suit your students and staff.

Format:

3 x 3 competition – mixed boy/girl teams of 4. 3 play with 1 reserve.

Capacity:

8 teams of 4 players- 2 pools of 4 teams across 2 half court areas.

Game duration:

8 minutes with a 2 minute break in between. Teams will play FIVE/SIX x 8 minute games throughout the day/time.

Court Supervisor:

Phil Webster + 4 Sonics staff

Additional staff:

We would require a staff/student ratio of 1: 16 from your school. 4 teams of 4 players could be supervised by 1 staff.

9.30-10am:

Sydney Supersonics 3 x 3 demonstration game and clinic 8 minute exhibition game, then skill/tactic break down with whole group participation.

Specific 3 x 3 plays are demonstrated and players are encouraged to use these “tactics” during their games.

Teams can be chosen as equal in ability after demonstrations have occurred or schools may have pre-selected teams of equal ability.

Games begin at 10am as below:

Ct 1-Pool A (Teams 1,2,3,4) Sonics staff ref & bench Ct 2-Pool B (Teams 5,6,7,8) Student ref & bench

Play-off games:

Each court mirrors court 1 and games run from a central timer to ensure no court runs ahead or behind-no over time games and pool placings are based on point + and –

Pool A and B are grouped together for cross-over games (1st pool A v 4th Pool B)

Cost:

$100 per team- max 5 players per team 4 is recommended
